Sesuai judulnya, sebenernya udah lama banget pengen nulis topik ini: Google Rule The World. Well, karena umumnya orang tau Google sebagai mesin pencari. Tapi kalo menilik jauh ke belakang bisnisnya, kok kayaknya gak abis-abis lini bisnis mereka, melingkupi hampir semua hajat di kehidupan kita, bahkan jauh di atas kehidupan standar manusia. Beberapa yang bisa disebutin diantaranya adalah, mereka punya project bikin moon rover robot untuk ke bulan (Google Lunar X Prize: lunar.xprize.org) yang bakal beneran berangkat ke bulan tahun 2015, mereka juga udah beliBoston Dynamics, institut robotik yang develop robot-robot humanoid (bostondynamics.com), merekabikin chips sendiri, mereka punya perusahaan kesehatan bernama Calico, mereka masuk ranah politik dengan develop constituteproject.org, yang ngasi fasilitas ke para penyusun konstitusi dengan cara mempesenjatai mereka berbagai tools, termasuk untuk para warga sipil biasa yang pengen membandingkan konstitusi antar negara di dunia, mereka punya perusahaan satelit, mereka produksi hardware kayak handphone Nexus, wearable-technology Google Glass, dll, segala macem yang kayaknya susah disebutin satu-satu, yaa apalagi kalo yang emang ngurusin urusan-urusan harian manusia, kayak online store dan termasuk wedding organizer (google.com/weddings/#/announce-the-news) #uhuk xP. Yaa singkatnya sih, sampe ada yang bilang, mereka tuh jadi kayak semacam “Tuhan Digital”. Fyuh~

Can you guess what crossed my mind at the first time I saw all these stuffs?
“Oh God… what kind of future is coming…” X’)))

Toh nantinya kita juga make layanannya”.

So, menurut kalian gimana?

FREE E-Book, Only for You

Hi, all!

It had been years since the last time i wrote here, haha.. Many things to do, and yea.. of course many things worth to share. But to manage the time to be effective is still a big homework for me. Anyway, I also write some posts in another blog, specifically in bahasa, while most of the contents are reshare information that (hopefully) will be useful for others, just to differentiate this web that I intend to be my own private sharing space which is also fully in (my-own-style-practical) English =p

Just like now, I didnt expect that I want to write today, but when I do, I can’t hold it.

If only you know, guys, I have a very long list of topics that I want to discuss about here, but perhaps those things will only truly written if I have a whole time of the world, really >,< Maybe I should lower my expectation of myself that I always have to write a long-comprehensive post, instead of make the short-shallow one. It only made me actually NEVER wrote, while at the same time, I keep posting on facebook page and tweeting! Why didnt I share here? The facebook posts and tweets might be drowned and disappeared, but blog posts will always remained and waited to be read by anyone (beside also as my own reminder). So.. here i am, trying to change my habit, exercising muscles again. Ready?

Fyuuh~ But since it is gonna be the “warming-up” post, so let’s get started by the fun one xD

As the title above, I wanna give u a free e-book. No, not the illegal one. It permitted to be shared directly from the author. And know what? This is a pictorial book for kids, yay! ^,^/ Haha… For those who know me personally, must have known that I’m a huge fan of kids book. And for those who not, well.. now I told u that I am. I have become the admirer of this kind of book since around 2008, since somebody introduced me to the magical things that this could create. I even ever illustrate a serie of pictorial kids book, and it got me deeper to its world. No, no, please.. don’t get me wrong. It doesnt mean that I’m kind of people that surrender self to be trapped in childhood. No. We may not always easily judge people by only single thing like that. I read all kind of books, from technical journal to philosophy, history to psychology, drama to science-fiction, comics to detective novels, you name it (except motivational books, maybe xP). But kids book has attracted me to find its particularity. If we learn it well, this will lead us to explore about civilization, neuro-science, and even a thing that i called social-engineering. You can see a huge difference from people who love reading since early age and not. How the imagination works and fantasy or fairytales from bed time stories affects human thinking, or even more, how this made us collectively to be a weak nation in this scientific competitive world. Sounds serious, eh? :p But it is.. Kids book is a serious stuff. We can discuss about it for days, if you don’t mind.. well, but i know it’s not the time, haha.. We will do it later. I promise.

Sooooo… what exactly am I trying to share? :))

A good friend of mine had made a simple book like seen below:

What ju think?

At the first sight i see it, I thought it was made by an illustrator and it was on sale. But after I read my friend’s story, I just knew that it was her own made picture, and she really learnt from zero to made it. Amazing! I remembered the first time I hold a pencil to write a sketch and how hard this could be.. moreover to create a good story that has an end. So, to appreciate her effort, and also to poison people to simply reading, i want to help to share it to my circle. And with the kindness of hers, you guys may also reshare it to anyone u wish. Just several pages.. yet still sweet for me.

Soooo.. where’s the book, Haneeee…??

Haha, okay, okay, I’ll stop blabbering and just give you the link here : http://www.4shared.com/office/cWQ7pO64ba/Emma_Shoes_Day.html

Hope you guys enjoy it as I am, and again, thanks to mba Nita Chandra for giving me a little push to write again, hihi..

Overall, such a quite short post, rite? :B See you next time, and.. have a nice day!

PS: I lost ALL my blog comments because unintendedly deleted along with the spams, huaaaa :'(( So please to leave any comments again just to adorn this quiet dark blog, hiks.

Sheryl Sandberg – Lean In (Part 3)

In the 2nd chapter: Sit at The Table, Sheryl slapped me with her blatant truth about psychological tendencies that woman have. Something that might seems obvious, but we often reluctant to admit (like the institutional obstacles are not enough -.-“)

As woman, we rarely think about deserving achievement, position, or even compliment. We often give lower scores to ourselves about anything, while men do the reverse. Eventhough we’re good at something, we usually haunted by insecurity that we’re not good enough, there’s still a lack of something, and so on. When somebody congratulates us for a good news that they heard, we feel that we already being fraudelent and fooled them. When a plan gone aint as we wish, we always search the bad side and drop into a great degree (compared to men, who even can take that so easily). And know what? To complete all those messy feelings, these mental problems for women could take very serious impact for a long time. Oh, well~

And yea.. anyway, I got a new term from this chapter, that is: Impostor syndrome – phenomenon of capable people being plagued by self-doubt. Coz, for example, even when a woman was offered an executive position in a company, while everybody thinks that she is the fittest person for it, she herself might think hundred times more than man to receive and say “yes, I’m ready”. Hufft~

I think everybody should know this. Be a woman and a leader is not easy. We really need to adjust our intellectual and emotional capacity. Me myself is gonna practice more each day.. to think slightly like a man.. just feel good about achievement, regardless to its imperfection.. give higher scores to myself and feel deserve about many great things.. to not so desperate when bad luck comes… courage to take risks and make any opportunities fit for us… enjoy the life, coz the ups and downs are unavoidable. Just let it flow, Hani.. just let it flow.. not go with the flow, but GROW with the flow.. coz your happiness is all depend on you.
Wish me tons of lucks. Cheers!

Lean In – Part 2

Finished the first chapter of the book and found that every sentence was essential. Its impossible for me to re-write it all here, rite? So please, grab the book and read it by yourself. Its enlightning for both men and women. By economic base, Sheryl did the numeric approach, explained facts by using data but still by sharing more about her own experience as well. Throwed me back to my childhood when i was almost always be top of the class, and be the leader for all, while many other girls also did. It proved that we all have the chance to be number one, not restricted to specified genre. But where are they when they grew up? How many women take the executive positions now? This chapter showed a lot, even in the international business circle! Stereotype threat we could say. When being ambitious for women seems negative, when our biology demands that we have children while during the same time our career demands maximum time investment, when our surrounding warns that we cant be committed to both our families and careers, when barrier is all we see to aspire, lets start to ask ourselves: What Would We Do If We Weren’t Afraid?

Lean In – Sheryl Sandberg (Part 1)

lean-In-1

I was considering about which book I should read first, Steve Jobs autobiography or this Sheryl Sandberg’s, then my choice goes to this one, because its page aint even reach 31% of the competitor, haha… 217 over 716.

Actually I just read the foreword of this “Lean In”, but be in love in an instant. Sheryl is such a role model for any women who want to pursue career in technology industry, moreover in this global world. She is one of the men behind Google’s success, started from it was still a startup company in early 2000, and how she through many barriers to reach the top (until become the COO of Facebook) is something that could encourage and empower women, even when we have a family and responsible to our child. I like the part when she said “I do not believe that there is one definition of success or happiness. Not all women want career, not all women want children. Not all women want both”. And it is really true. I saw many of my married women friends are fully being a housewifes, not passionate to make a career, yet they’re (seem) happy. But for women who have potential and high expectations of making goals in life, and also ambitious to make progress for the better world, take a role in top position could give us strong and powerful voice to speak out about our needs and concerns.

Women face too many complex challenges, not to mention our own internal obstacles. As a moslem, I’m not fully support the feminist manifesto or equality in any aspects, but as an individual (who also want to achieve many things in life), by reignite the revolution, I hope more people will understand about our desire, so that could help us to ease the burden that we-have-manage-all-aspects-at-home-while-other-activities-are-only-choices.

I hope my future husband read this book (hehe..) and become please to share more things, include to do more at home (be a real partner) then we can compromise the gap, while support each other, so we can be not only happy as a family, but also happy as a person 🙂

Read all my books review here >>

NB: Hey, i just knew something! If we want to make a comment in reading progress of Goodreads, we’re just allowed to write in no more than 420 characters! While when I’m just read 10 first pages of a book, I can even review (as you see above) multiple times of the limit. So I think post it on blog is a good option.

Anyway… The more I know about Sheryl, the more I adore. From workplace to home, college to world most respected company, anything. And the TIME magazine cover below is one of the most powerful pictures of her, so I print it and use it as a wall poster in my room. What do you think? 😀

sheryl-sandberg-time-magazine-cover

And readers, if you are also a women who lean in, you can join to LeanIn.org , a non-profit organization that Sheryl founded to empower all women to achieve their ambitions. Lets struggling together! *cheers* 😀

The Science of Luck – Bong Chandra

219920_10150262685460873_154535985872_9028217_6767190_o

Ok. I have to admit that this book is beyond my expectation. Quite good, because aint only based on theory, but he also relate it with his experience when facing the real condition. I like the part when he was doing a calculation of “unnecessary things”, but it could make us think more. For example, how many time wasted of doing this and that, a big amount if we use to do other things. He also sum up the effectivity of using English instead of bahasa, regards to the less time that we need to pronounce it, that if we do it for a long time, how many persons whom we can approach, either for business or anything. Like the other motivational books, it explain a lot about perspective and how to synchronize thought, body, and attitude. But off course, in this book Bong also promotes his seminars, business, and any classes that he provides. I cant imagine that he’s just a bit older than me. *sigh

Research = Lonely?

Once, me and Pak Moko were talking about our mate, Listra, who rarely coming to our meeting in recent times. After sending her an email, finally she replied and said that she couldnt join yet again because she was busy doing research and that was kind of lonely. And can you guess what is Pak Moko’s response about it? Here it is…

capture-20140108-114952
One of my professor used to say, jokingly, “If it isn’t lonely, it isn’t research.” When I’m doing research I like to work alone, too … but it is not necessarily a lonely endeavor. I always have half a dozen or so “experts” talking in my head — I call ‘em “the committee.”

Of course I still need to tell others –real persons– about what I’m doing, usually than happens at the Friday evening gathering by the Terrace (lake Mendota). It’s a very human thing to do, as Carl Sagan wrote his thought on science in his book (one of the 2014 reading list):
“Popularizing science – trying to make its methods and findings accessible to non-scientists – then follows naturally and immediately. Not explaining science seems to me perverse. When you’re in love, you want to tell the world. This book is a personal statement, reflecting my lifelong love affair with science.”
– “The Demon Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark” (Carl Sagan, 1996), p.278.
Moko/
++++

……….

So, what do you think? 😐

I try to understand, but, still, legitimate loneliness as part of a research sounds so pathetic for me 😐

Then I share with Giri, a friend of mine who has been living in Tokyo for several years, until we fortunately agree that it was really American culture, to work individually and based on a project. It will hardly to find  in Asia, who usually work collectively, or even sometimes involve their families.

A Coming Venture Capital for Social Entreprises From Indonesia

Image

Holla! An info again 😀

Me & Ngadu Ide team just get introduced to Timothy Francis by mas @DondiHananto n do some discussion. Tim is a representative of Village Capital (www.vilcap.com), a non-profit organization that based in New York, n he’s on mission here to be sure.

In brief, they intend to provide a venture capital for some social entreprises in Indonesia (yes, only the social one). The program itself is already run for several years and applied in several countries (you can check http://www.vilcap.com and see the winners profile there as reference). Anyway, I guess i dont have to mention any kinds of business that categorized as social entreprise here, since that term is also not clearly defined in this country. But the point is; a business that empower people and has social impact to the community.

Unfortunately, if what you have is only an idea, u’r not eligible to join, coz they require business that already run, has a revenue, n handled full time. But in contrary, if u hv anything that they need to see, it will be a good chance for u, coz they will select 15 teams all over Indonesia, get them all to the business incubator for 3-5 months, and the 2 winning teams will given funding until US$ 50,000 each.

Well, I cant directly tell u when this program will be started, coz Tim is still also look for some insights about our potentials in this field. But if u feel interested, u can ask me his email or skype and contact him directly to ask any questions about it (and he’s single btw).

Hmmm.. i think thats it for today. Its a quite exhausting day, and i’m not really please to see October to go too soon. And eventhough we’re not celebrate today, but since Tim has forced me to remember what day it is, so… Happy Halloween, people!
