Finished the first chapter of the book and found that every sentence was essential. Its impossible for me to re-write it all here, rite? So please, grab the book and read it by yourself. Its enlightning for both men and women. By economic base, Sheryl did the numeric approach, explained facts by using data but still by sharing more about her own experience as well. Throwed me back to my childhood when i was almost always be top of the class, and be the leader for all, while many other girls also did. It proved that we all have the chance to be number one, not restricted to specified genre. But where are they when they grew up? How many women take the executive positions now? This chapter showed a lot, even in the international business circle! Stereotype threat we could say. When being ambitious for women seems negative, when our biology demands that we have children while during the same time our career demands maximum time investment, when our surrounding warns that we cant be committed to both our families and careers, when barrier is all we see to aspire, lets start to ask ourselves: What Would We Do If We Weren’t Afraid?
Lean In – Sheryl Sandberg (Part 1)
I was considering about which book I should read first, Steve Jobs autobiography or this Sheryl Sandberg’s, then my choice goes to this one, because its page aint even reach 31% of the competitor, haha… 217 over 716.
Actually I just read the foreword of this “Lean In”, but be in love in an instant. Sheryl is such a role model for any women who want to pursue career in technology industry, moreover in this global world. She is one of the men behind Google’s success, started from it was still a startup company in early 2000, and how she through many barriers to reach the top (until become the COO of Facebook) is something that could encourage and empower women, even when we have a family and responsible to our child. I like the part when she said “I do not believe that there is one definition of success or happiness. Not all women want career, not all women want children. Not all women want both”. And it is really true. I saw many of my married women friends are fully being a housewifes, not passionate to make a career, yet they’re (seem) happy. But for women who have potential and high expectations of making goals in life, and also ambitious to make progress for the better world, take a role in top position could give us strong and powerful voice to speak out about our needs and concerns.
Women face too many complex challenges, not to mention our own internal obstacles. As a moslem, I’m not fully support the feminist manifesto or equality in any aspects, but as an individual (who also want to achieve many things in life), by reignite the revolution, I hope more people will understand about our desire, so that could help us to ease the burden that we-have-manage-all-aspects-at-home-while-other-activities-are-only-choices.
I hope my future husband read this book (hehe..) and become please to share more things, include to do more at home (be a real partner) then we can compromise the gap, while support each other, so we can be not only happy as a family, but also happy as a person 🙂
Read all my books review here >>
NB: Hey, i just knew something! If we want to make a comment in reading progress of Goodreads, we’re just allowed to write in no more than 420 characters! While when I’m just read 10 first pages of a book, I can even review (as you see above) multiple times of the limit. So I think post it on blog is a good option.
Anyway… The more I know about Sheryl, the more I adore. From workplace to home, college to world most respected company, anything. And the TIME magazine cover below is one of the most powerful pictures of her, so I print it and use it as a wall poster in my room. What do you think? 😀
And readers, if you are also a women who lean in, you can join to LeanIn.org , a non-profit organization that Sheryl founded to empower all women to achieve their ambitions. Lets struggling together! *cheers* 😀
The Science of Luck – Bong Chandra
| Ok. I have to admit that this book is beyond my expectation. Quite good, because aint only based on theory, but he also relate it with his experience when facing the real condition. I like the part when he was doing a calculation of “unnecessary things”, but it could make us think more. For example, how many time wasted of doing this and that, a big amount if we use to do other things. He also sum up the effectivity of using English instead of bahasa, regards to the less time that we need to pronounce it, that if we do it for a long time, how many persons whom we can approach, either for business or anything. Like the other motivational books, it explain a lot about perspective and how to synchronize thought, body, and attitude. But off course, in this book Bong also promotes his seminars, business, and any classes that he provides. I cant imagine that he’s just a bit older than me. *sigh |
Research = Lonely?
Once, me and Pak Moko were talking about our mate, Listra, who rarely coming to our meeting in recent times. After sending her an email, finally she replied and said that she couldnt join yet again because she was busy doing research and that was kind of lonely. And can you guess what is Pak Moko’s response about it? Here it is…

One of my professor used to say, jokingly, “If it isn’t lonely, it isn’t research.” When I’m doing research I like to work alone, too … but it is not necessarily a lonely endeavor. I always have half a dozen or so “experts” talking in my head — I call ‘em “the committee.”
Of course I still need to tell others –real persons– about what I’m doing, usually than happens at the Friday evening gathering by the Terrace (lake Mendota). It’s a very human thing to do, as Carl Sagan wrote his thought on science in his book (one of the 2014 reading list):
“Popularizing science – trying to make its methods and findings accessible to non-scientists – then follows naturally and immediately. Not explaining science seems to me perverse. When you’re in love, you want to tell the world. This book is a personal statement, reflecting my lifelong love affair with science.”
– “The Demon Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark” (Carl Sagan, 1996), p.278.

……….
So, what do you think? 😐
I try to understand, but, still, legitimate loneliness as part of a research sounds so pathetic for me 😐
Then I share with Giri, a friend of mine who has been living in Tokyo for several years, until we fortunately agree that it was really American culture, to work individually and based on a project. It will hardly to find in Asia, who usually work collectively, or even sometimes involve their families.

A Coming Venture Capital for Social Entreprises From Indonesia
Holla! An info again 😀
Me & Ngadu Ide team just get introduced to Timothy Francis by mas @DondiHananto n do some discussion. Tim is a representative of Village Capital (www.vilcap.com), a non-profit organization that based in New York, n he’s on mission here to be sure.
In brief, they intend to provide a venture capital for some social entreprises in Indonesia (yes, only the social one). The program itself is already run for several years and applied in several countries (you can check http://www.vilcap.com and see the winners profile there as reference). Anyway, I guess i dont have to mention any kinds of business that categorized as social entreprise here, since that term is also not clearly defined in this country. But the point is; a business that empower people and has social impact to the community.
Unfortunately, if what you have is only an idea, u’r not eligible to join, coz they require business that already run, has a revenue, n handled full time. But in contrary, if u hv anything that they need to see, it will be a good chance for u, coz they will select 15 teams all over Indonesia, get them all to the business incubator for 3-5 months, and the 2 winning teams will given funding until US$ 50,000 each.
Well, I cant directly tell u when this program will be started, coz Tim is still also look for some insights about our potentials in this field. But if u feel interested, u can ask me his email or skype and contact him directly to ask any questions about it (and he’s single btw).
Hmmm.. i think thats it for today. Its a quite exhausting day, and i’m not really please to see October to go too soon. And eventhough we’re not celebrate today, but since Tim has forced me to remember what day it is, so… Happy Halloween, people!
A Note From a Friend #2

Do You Wanna Captured By International Photographer? B))
Hey, I have an info! :3
Hey, i hv an info! :3
I just hv a meetup with Francoise Huguier. She’s one of the most reputable photographers in France. She got a World Press Photo, worked as a mode photographer for Vogue Magazine & New York Times, and also did so many projects in almost all genres of photography while roaming around the world (u can visit en.francoisehuguier.com for details).
Now she’s in Bandung and plan to make her personal project here, about… hijaber! Ha!! After discussion, i think its gonna be a vry fun project to capture portraits of our people wearing hijab, then make a serie of it. Sooo.. I wanna invite u all, anyone, to join with us, being the “model”, n feel the joy to collaborate with her. I need around 15-20 women aged 15-30 who are daily wear hijab n we’ll make a photoshoot in this weekend (2-3 Nov). The theme itself is “elegant”, doesnt mean so glamorous, but reflect the best of u in mode that comfort u as well 😀
If u feel interested, u can contact me n send a message on facebook, twitter (@haniwww), email (hanirosidaini@gmail.com), or anything. Or if u think that ur fren/family will glad to know about it, just simply reshare, coz i’ll wait for ur response til the end of October.
To make it clear, we dont need “real model”, but ordinary women who simply want to contribute. Yea.. just like me. She told me that i’m also allowed to take poses if i want to. Haha.. But hey, chill, i’m still considering bout it since fashion is not sumtin i’m really fond of. But perhaps i’ll join with u at the day. So, see you soon! :*
Bebersih Bandung Yuk! :D
We Need You, Indonesians!
Holla! How are you, people? Hope you’re doin great, not just like mine. I got sick for several days. Doctor said that I have a typhus symptom and sore in gastricular. I got disgrasp in middle part of lower chest (I dont know what it was), fever, migraine, droppy eyes, and anything ’til bed suddenly change into my only place. I have to consume teens pills a day, that my pharmacist friend worried about if its over medication, but fortunately I’m getting better now and suppa excited to get healthy very very soon.
Actually I want to tell you about my process of being sick, so you can prevent yourself to experience the same, but I think its not the point of this post, while you might also get bored to death to hear it, haha.. So I want to share something more important, one of things that I have to leave a while coz the medicines effect has forced me to dilly dallying over all night and day. And hopefully this post could redeem my guilt a bit to team for being away this time v^_^
As I said in the interview with lagingapa.in here, I’m currently involved in a movement called #GSDB (Gerakan Sejuta Data Budaya) or “One Million of Cultural Data Movement”. Some of you might have heard it, and some have not, coz actually its not really something new and just builded. It has been running for several years, but moved slowly while we need to make it huge! Yes, people. Yes, you’re right! It’s all about collecting database of our culture from west to east and make it integrated in a digital libary (check http://www.budaya-indonesia.org for first step).
Hey! Did you mad when our heritages claimed by another country? Have you heard about how many cultures are stolen? Have you ever imagined how much money we could earn based on this sector? In harsh counting, it could even raise our GDP into IDR 300 trillion $__$ *sounds of Bingo machine flowing money continuously*
Akh! It must be very excruciating.
God is already so gracious to bestow us so many unspeakable and breathtaking things but they’re ignored. In fact, claiming needs documentation, and we lose here. Moreover, documentation aint only useful for preservation and to be memorabilia in today’s generation, but also for innovative science research in the future, and again, has potential to strengthen our economy *drolling over the number again*
So, what can you do?
First of all, we’re not ignore the government, but we’re helping them. Our result will also be presented to them and registered to WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization).
And just like GNFI, I also have good news for you, Indonesia! Everyone’s invited, everyone’s allowed to join. We need you to escalate our movement, we need you so bad, coz we’re only strong when we collaborate. *whistle*
You may help by submit data on our web (take it fun & there are also rewards for people whose meaningful contribution), download our ‘infobudaya’ apps in your Apple, Android, or Blackberry (its worth the time), simply share about this to your friends (trust me, a little support from you is worth million), or tadaaa… recruitment has opened for you who want to take the bigger chance:
Do you have to become really into culture? Well, well, well,, off course it would be awesome if you do. But if that what you have in mind, I have to say no, you dont. Me myself even aint an artist, dancer, researcher, or anything, but i do CARE, and thats above all. Or you can find your own motive; curiousity, study, experience, networking, self exploration, national pride, you name it.
And as a hint, if you choose the creative team, you may be join on one division with me, hehe.. You’ll be freed to play around with your mind, pop out ideas & thoughts, and we’ll work on the plans into something real. You may create creative campaign, fun publication, maybe by using meme, poster, trips, expeditions, quizzes, or anything, coz being creative is about doing something with style!
And about other people on team? Owh.. I definitely say that I cant expect more. They are respectable people which their spirit seems to contagious. We got Prof.Hokky Situngkir (professor, since he has published 14 international scientific journals o.O) and his pals from Bandung Fe Institute who initiated this action, kang Goris Mustaqim (i cant understand more about this people’s spirit, keep contributing to society even when still in mourn and great grief, suffering a big loss of his father death, while also waiting for his first baby birth), Bang Indra, my favourite man from Bandung Digital Valley, Kang Ajun, our promising developer and Jokowi’s darling (hehe..), Erlan from IACT, and many more… Watta very berry loyal people with determination and integration. I’m ashamed if I’m not help much (yet).

After presentation about #GSDB to Mr.Indra Utoyo as a Director of Innovation & Strategic Portfolio of Telkom. Left to right: Bang Rolan Dahlan, Dadan, me, Mr.IU, and Bang Indra
As addition, you can read a chirpstory from Kang Goris here, or watch this video:
So? I’ll stop my blah blah blah and now leave the ball to you. If it is the opening of a story, I believe that the rest is gonna be marvelous and mesmerizing, but only, if only, you’re on our side, all Indonesians.
PS: When this post is published, I heard that Kang Goris’s baby has born. A girl! So, congratulation to you and Teteh Paramitha, I cant wait to see your beatiful lil princess ❤ And for everyone out there, please take care of your body when Mr. Weatherman is very uncertain. Now I have to take my medicine again and must be sleepy in an instant after that. Zzzzz….
